Syed Qamar-Ur-Zaman Bukhari died on October 13, 2015. To Allah Almighty he belongs and indeed to him he shall return. I have no words to express my feelings, I am shocked, speechless and scared. He was more than a brother and a true companion to me, always stood by to guide and support me in difficult times. On many occasions he turned my tears into smiles.
Syed Qamar-Ur-Zaman Bukhari was bold and honest, a hardworking and thorough professional. He remained an important part and parcel of litigation and credit administration departments in two organizations i.e. National Development and Finance Corporation (NDFC) and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). He used to guide all his colleagues through elements of uncertainty and confusion; he remained an invigorating personality for all of us.
A simple human being who believed in the true spirit of humanity, he did not believe in sumptuous commodities and fictitious humanely spirits. He never complained about any aspect of his life and never dithered fighting against odds. He resuscitated many of us from the ill designs of others. He was man of love, trust, service and above all helpfulness, always ready to extend financial assistance to marginalized people. He had high standards of morality.
For him, life was a promise, a mission and submission which should and must be spent according to the injunctions of religion. He was man of friends and devoted whole his life for the betterment of friends. He never bowed himself before anybody except Allah, the Lords of all worlds. He was full of energy and passion, always wanting to excel and started his errands with the name of Allah who remained with him throughout his happiness and sorrow. He was always ready to forgive and believed in decency, civility and social interaction.
After passing the LLB from University of Punjab, Lahore he started his practice. He was famous for his professionalism with a unique human face. He joined Central Directorate of National Savings as manager and worked with zeal. He was selected in former National Development and Finance Corporation (NDFC) and posted in Karachi. While living alone in the city of lights, he learnt the art of cooking delicious foods, while he was fond of good food but ate very little.
He worked more than 35 years but never compromised on principles, outperforming others with sheer determination, honesty and energetic effort. He never schemed nor did he indulge in any conspiracy against anybody, he was an icon of honesty, purity and simplicity.
He never tried to topple his seniors and fulfilled his allocated responsibilities with dignity and dedication, submissive to seniors and helpful to his juniors. He did not misuse his discretionary power/authority to soil the career of any body. He was simple, straightforward and very sensitive. He valued humanity, talent and hardworking. He confronted many ups and downs in his professional life and overcame them; his entire career remained unblemished. He spent an eventful life full of struggle, determination and courage and confronted numerous challenges that, with the Grace of Allah, he surpassed.
He was a clean man and cared for his followers, living in the country and around the globe. He had Turkish blood that originated from the family tree of Prophet Hazrat Khizr (May Allah Peace be upon him). He advised me to visit the holy shrine of Hazrat Bahauddin Naqshband (his pioneer ancestor) in Bukharam, Uzbekistan. I personally visited and conveyed his message while offering Dua at his shrine.
His late father Syed Siddique Hassan Bukhari was a famous religious figure of his time. He ruled over the hearts and minds of people through unconditional service, love and caring. Always there to lend a helping hand, he changed the lives of many people; his whole message was based on respect and love for humanity. He was buried in Jang. He performed religious and spiritual responsibilities after the demise of his father for so many years.
He was orphaned in his very early life. His late mother Begum Iqbal struggled very hard and shipped the family i.e. Iqbal Hassan Shah, Najam Ul Hasan, Habibah Makhdum, Syed Qamar Ur Zaman and Sabiha Hassan Shah from shores of uncertainty and helpless to coasts of prosperity and production. He loved his mother very much and always remembered her.
During the last one year, he loved to talk about his childhood, friends and a little goat and a dog. Some months ago he planned to visit the places where he had spent his childhood and personally visited the home where he was born. He captured all his memories in a smart phone, sharing all pictures with us. He shared his series of dreams and indicated his possible departure from this world to unite with his departed mother in Heaven. During different dreams he talked to his deceased mother, father and uncle and experienced many spiritual journeys in his different dreams. His dreams proved true and perfect, unfortunately.
During last one month, he lost in cherished memories of the past. Despite all the stresses and strains he remained very active till his last breath. Last week, was very terrible due to some very complicated reasons. He remained mum during his last two days. He was a completely changed person. His even did not take his meal/lunch in the last day. He was in deep depression but he did not share his feelings of possible/expected departure from this world. But I had certain feelings about his probable departure because of my close affiliation and spiritual association with him. I dreamed about the death of my brother on last Friday, October 9, 2015 but I could not interpret it rightly. It was a clear-cut message from the Heaven. Alas!
He loved all his children namely Syed Usman Hassan, Syed Arslan Hassan, Syeda Shamaila Hassan and Syed Furqan Hassan. He remained particularly worried about Syed Usman Hassan and Syed Furqan Hassan for some reason. I hope after his demise, Syed Usman Hassan will be back in meaningful life and fulfill his responsibilities towards his mother and family.
I sat with him in the afternoon and we talked about different personal things. At 5 PM he shared his conversation to his beloved daughter Syeda Shamaila about his demise/departure. Her reply was shocking to him. He advised her to live a decent and happy life and take care to her mother and brothers.
I requested him to drop me at the stop. He went outside and waited for me some time. Unfortunately, I could not go with him in the car. Before receiving this sad news, I experienced a great stress in my heart. I remained restless for so many hours. Finally, I received the shocking news of his sudden death. It broke my heart. I lost my voice and eye sight for couple of minutes. I even lost my confidence. I shared this sad news with Taslim Haider, Tariq Saeed Rana, Azher Hussain and many others, all were saddened. The whole office is still in great shock.
He was buried on Friday, October 16, 2015. His devoted followers escorted his purified body to his last destination; a true reflection of devotion, faith, submission and love. Ultimately, devotion won and the devil was defeated. Purity became victorious and prosecution failed miserably. Determination outperformed destruction. Simplicity outclassed scheme. Honesty outnumbered dishonesty. We are all with the deceased’s family and pray that May Allah bless them all and grant them the fortitude and patience to bear this great loss.
May Syed Qamar-Ur-Zaman Bukhari rest in peace Heaven. Ameen.
